The Independence County Senior Citizens Program mission is to provide many services which enables seniors served the ability to maintain their dignity and independence in the least restrictive environment possible, to provide services which promotes wellness and instills in its participants a lasting sense of self worth.

Eligibility requirements for services vary according to the service provided.  Senior Activity Centers and transportation services are available to persons sixty (60) or older, while other services are based upon a needs assessment.

 

Those services are:

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation services are designed to provide seniors’ access to the Senior Activities Center, shopping center, grocery stores, utility companies, government offices and senior excursions.

 

SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTERS

Senior Activity Centers are located in Batesville, Newark, Oil Trough, and Pleasant Plains.  The centers provide nourishing meals, a menu of activities such as exercise classes, line dancing, programs, etc. which encourages individuals to stay active, come together and participate in the community.

 

HOME DELIVERED MEALS

Meals are provided to homebound seniors through our Meals on Wheels Program who are unable to obtain or prepare meals due to disability, age or isolation.

 

HOMEMAKER SERVICES

Workers perform household tasks such as cleaning, shopping, menu planning, bill paying, and transporting seniors.

 

RESPITE

Respite services allow a family caregiver the opportunity to leave a family member in the care of a trained aide while they are out of the home.

 

INFORMATIONAL & REFERRAL

Information and referral assists seniors to find the services in their community to meet their needs.  It is a direct resource for seniors to contact for help with their problems.

 

We also provide enrollment assistance with prescription medication, Part D Medicare Cost and Medicare Savings Premiums, deductibles and coinsurance.

 

CASE MANAGEMENT

 

Case management is provided for those seniors who need assistance in acquiring services to maintain their independence, clients are linked to services and monitored on a regular basis to assure that clients are receiving appropriate services.

 

MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION

 

Medical transportation is provided to doctors’ offices, pharmacies, dialysis, physical and occupational therapy.  Medical schedule transportation is also provided to out of county medical appointments on a prearranged basis as well.  Handicapped accessible transportation is available to those individuals who require the service.
